Kate supports pupils across a wide range of abilities, including children working towards age-related expectations and those aiming for greater depth. She has extensive experience working with pupils with autism and social, emotional and mental health needs. Her calm, encouraging and adaptable approach helps children build confidence, overcome barriers to learning and make sustained academic progress.

Kate studied maths to A Level. As a teacher of maths, she uses a variety of physical and visual resources to ensure children’s understanding, build their confidence and eliminate misconceptions. She is used both to working with children who need reassurance in their maths skills, and to stretching children who enjoy maths and love a challenge.

As an experienced English Lead, Kate has particular expertise in reading and writing. She has redesigned and overseen a rich primary English curriculum, moderated children’s writing and delivered training for English subject leaders. Her extensive previous work as a children’s bookseller, author, editor, and reviewer also gives her exceptional knowledge of children’s literature, which she uses to inspire lasting enthusiasm for reading and writing; she is the recipient of a British Book Award for 'An Outstanding Contribution to the National Year of Reading'.
