They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Jodie's biography
Currently, Jodie is a highly motivated, adaptable and responsible Lecturer at Hartpury University. Previously, she has been a Prep School Teacher with experience in both key stages. She has developed interpersonal skills which allow her to effectively communicate concisely and appropriately in a manner which the children understand. She endeavour to make all her lessons both creative and interactive for all pupils, and to provide a space to encourage independent thinking. Jodie has successfully tutored for the 7+ and 11+ entrance exams with 100% pass rate. Along side being a lecturer she tutors children who are out of mainstream education.
She has an upper class 2:1 degree from Bath Spa University in Education, specialising in 0-7 years, meaning she has a comprehensive understanding of the experiences and expectations of KS1. Jodie has a keen interest in how the expectations and aspirations of society influences educational outcomes. She achieved 1:1 for her research in this area.
Her PGCE is focused on 5-11 years and was obtained from Worcester University. Therefore, giving Jodie theoretical understanding of all year groups.
In London, Jodie has taught a Year 1 class with the expectation of teaching every child a year ahead. The children must be ready to take a mock Year 2 SATS paper by the summer term. To achieve teaching a year ahead, Jodie had to understand how detailed planning combined with the careful assessment of learners’ progress and intervention is crucial to driving up standards. In addition, she can effectively use summative and formative assessment methods, which are then utilised to help plan personal progressive next steps to set clear differentiated targets. She has the skills to analyse data, to monitor and track each child’s progress to ensure progression. This is a system she uses in her tutoring. Children are initially assessed and then a long term and short term plan is provided. This has been successful. All her students achieved the school of their choice and Jodie has received positive testimonials from her delighted tutees parents.
Her core strength is understanding children’s behaviours with a focus on consistent positive praise and creating a fair and belonging environment. She strives to foster an approach that is based on the development of building self-esteem and confidence in children. She believes it is of vital importance to listen and encourage tutees' voices in the design of the action plan. She knows this helps children take pride in their work and education, developing intrinsic motivation, resilience, and integrity.
It’s important to Jodie that she adapts to individual needs and her students have the confidence to address their problems with determination and flexibility.
Her Goal is for them to be driven by an underpinning belief that learning and academic success will provide them with the lifelong opportunity to fulfil their potential and achieve their ambitions. Children must believe they will surpass the potential they currently think they have!
She is highly approachable, your children will know she wants to celebrate their successes, help them negotiate their talents and assist them in overcoming their challenges.
