Both Stroud School and King Edward VI School are keen to encourage families and prospective pupils to visit. There are various options here for King Edward VI: the school is happy to arrange individual tours with senior staff, or there is the option of an open evening or a taster morning. Families who have registered will be notified of the dates of the taster morning, which allows your child to spend time in the school and meet key staff. Stroud School has a whole-school open morning which is tailored to your child’s year group and takes place in the Summer Term. Taster mornings at Stroud School are also offered as part of the admissions process. There is also a Sixth Form Open Evening in the Autumn Term for those looking for 16+ entry.
4+ entry to Stroud School can be achieved through attendance at an ‘observation session’, whereby children currently attending nursery are invited to the school and observed by Early Years staff. Taking place in the Spring Term, children will be assessed in relation to age-expected outcomes. Offers for a place at 4+ will then be sent out shortly afterwards.
7+ entry to Stroud School is via a taster morning, which takes place when your child is in Year 2. At the start of this morning, prospective pupils will sit an online assessment, the results of which will be taken into account when offering places. References from the child’s current school are also requested, and, as this is a popular entry point, offers for 7+ entry must be accepted promptly.
11+ entry to King Edward VI School is a two-stage process, via an entrance examination and an interview. There are three parts to the exam: Reasoning, English and Maths. At 11+, the English comprehension paper is multiple choice, and the writing paper is a choice of three options. The Maths paper is non-calculator and a list of key topics is displayed on the school website. Interviews for each prospective pupil lasting around 15 minutes take place prior to the entrance exam and offers are sent out once both stages are complete. References from the child’s current school are also requested, and, as this is a popular entry point, offers for 11+ entry must be accepted promptly.
13+ entry to King Edward VI School is a two-stage process, via an entrance examination and an interview. There are three parts to the exam: Reasoning, English and Maths. At 13+, the English comprehension paper is a mix of short and long answers, including some inference-style questions, and the writing paper is a choice of three options. The Maths paper is non-calculator and a list of key topics is displayed on the school website. Interviews for each prospective pupil lasting around 15 minutes take place prior to the entrance exam and offers are sent out once both stages are complete. References from the child’s current school are also requested, and, as this is a popular entry point, offers for 13+ entry must be accepted promptly.
