Sevenoaks School Entrance Guide

Ali because so much more that a tutor, she really fostered a sense of confidence and self belief. She was unfailingly positive and achieved exactly what we set out to. We miss her already!

Educating around 1200 students in a prime commuter town just thirty minutes from central London, Sevenoaks School is a proud winner of numerous awards for its co-educational and IB provision in particular. Indeed, the International Baccalaureate is the only option at Sixth Form. Sevenoaks School was founded in the 15th Century and counts many well-known academics amongst its alumni. Catering for both boarders and day pupils, Sevenoaks School is popular with local families and as it is only half an hour from London Gatwick, also has many international students. Entry is competitive, with around three prospective pupils for every place at each entry point, 11+ (Year 7), 13+ (Year 9) and 16+ (Year 12). Boarding is available for both girls and boys from Year 9 only, with day places available from Year 7.

Admissions Competitiveness & CEM Benchmark

How Competitive Is Entry to Sevenoaks School?

Entry to Sevenoaks School is competitive, with scores typically in the top 15–20% nationally.

While the school does not publish official CEM thresholds, aggregated outcomes and educator insight suggest that successful applicants typically achieve:

Indicative competitive range: 115–120.

Owl Tutors Competitiveness Index: 7.5 / 10 (our CEM age-standardised score).

Selectivity Tier: Tier 4

This classification places Sevenoaks School among the more academically competitive independent schools.

Schools do not publish official cut-off scores. The range and tier above are based on aggregated outcome patterns and educator insight, and are intended as indicative guidance rather than formal rankings.

What Does This Score Range Mean?

CEM scores are age-standardised, with:

  • 100 = national average
  • 115 = roughly top 15–20% nationally
  • 120 = roughly top 10%
  • 125+ = typically top 5% or higher

If competitive applicants are typically scoring in the 115–120 range, this suggests entry requires performance comfortably above national averages.

What parents and students say about our tutoring for Sevenoaks School

Rated 4.9 / 5 from 30 verified reviews for Sevenoaks School tutoring.

Alison is an outstanding tutor who combines expert subject knowledge, clear planning and a warm, fun, engaging style of teaching. Alison used her skills as a coach to support our child through preparation for senior school exams, providing clear feedback and targets. This was immensely helpful during a busy period that could otherwise have been more stressful.

Alison puts a lot of effort to prepare lesson and learning resources. Cynthia was lucky to have such a great tutor!
