Elaine is an enthusiastic and highly experienced Maths teacher, with over 20 years in the classroom, who is dedicated to providing engaging and purposeful lessons where students can see connections between the different elements of mathematics. She has a great deal of experience preparing students for exams, both for the content and skills required, but also building confidence, which is a huge factor for exam success. She works on supporting her learners to build up slowly, giving them small wins to boost their confidence, and then building on that with more challenge. She is calm and approachable, and understands that the importance of a strong relationship between learner and tutor.
Elaine is a GCSE Maths Examiner for a UK board and so has valuable understanding of GCSE exam requirements and uses this regularly in her lessons.
Elaine works hard to maintain her own training and development, keeping up to date with relevant training, and has completed a Masters Level Postgraduate Course in Teaching Mathematics as well as a course on managing Maths Anxiety and Dyscalculia among learners.
She has taught at a range of secondary schools in the UK and has worked as Head of Year and Head of Key Stage for a number of years, with responsibility for the welfare of hundreds of students. With over 20 years experience in the classroom, she has also been tutoring students privately both face to face and online for 7 years, offering personalised sessions to students aiming for 11+,13+, GCSE and iGCSE in Maths. In addition, she is EAL trained. She is passionate about mental health and well-being, and supporting students in developing strategies to take care of their own mental health, such as being out in nature, mindfulness and gratitude.
She lives in the middle of the stunning South Shropshire Hills with her husband, 2 daughters and dog, and loves to walk, cycle and play the piano.
