Ally's biography

Ally has an extensive background working in primary education with over ten years of experience, both in the UK and at renowned British international schools in Dubai and Singapore. She completed her PGCE from the University of Cambridge and gained her QTS in the UK. Her expertise spans across Key Stage One and Two, and she has been Head of English at two outstanding-rated schools. In addition, Ally has returned from her role as Exam Preparation Lead in Singapore, where she supported students applying to schools abroad.

One of Ally’s strengths lies in personalising her teaching sessions to suit each student’s learning style. Ally is also confident supporting English as an Additional Language (EAL) students to develop their language skills through the incorporation of phonics, talk for writing and grammar games. In Maths, Ally can support students to gain confidence to find connections and patterns within key mathematical concepts.

Ally is trained to support students with the 11+ exam preparation across English, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Maths. She has experience using Atom Learning and BOFA. At the core of her approach is not to teach to the tests but rather to support students to use their prior knowledge to identify different question types and strategies.

Ally has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:

As Exam Prep Lead at Dulwich College Singapore (DCSG), Ally worked with Year 5 and Year 6 students to provide academic support for the 11+. Her role included providing support for parents and having honest conversations of where their children are academically in terms of scores relevant to the schools they were applying for. She was responsible for working with the Head of the Junior School and presenting a parent workshop outlining the exam preparation process. She is confident using Atom Learning and BOFA to support each pupil's progress and is also happy to provide personalised resources to engage students who need further revision on their subject knowledge.
