School entrance experience

Amy has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:

Making careful use of available past papers and creating bespoke resources for each student allows Amy to motivate students towards a successful end. Her students are supported in understanding the need to time manage as well as being given clear success criteria in order to achieve in each of the various tasks on the exam. Amy encourages exam practice under timed conditions, using this information to carefully plan personalised interventions for each area of need.

Amy's biography:

Amy trained as a secondary English teacher in 2010, since then she has led one of the top departments in the UK and supported the development of new teachers as a mentor and an associate tutor at the University of Warwick. Since 2019 she has worked as a full-time, professional tutor supporting families who home educate, those wishing to improve their GCSE or A-Level exam results or students looking to gain entrance to selective institutions.

As a private tutor Amy works with students from age 6-18; her students benefit from her broad experience, high expectations and dedication to the profession. She trained to teach English Literature and Language at secondary level but also supports students with a range of subjects and especially enjoys language tuition; she is a native French speaker and spent 5 years living in Spain.

As well as working one to one with students, Amy has experience with the leading exam boards. She has marked for Pearson (Edexcel), Cambridge (CIE) and AQA for English Language and English Literature since 2011. Amy is a reflective tutor who uses her extensive examination experience to ensure students are fully prepared for their examinations. She also ensures that students are instilled with a life-long love of learning by making all her lessons academically challenging and enjoyable.

Amy contributes to educational blogs and publications in her spare time including TES and SecEd. As well as being an enthusiastic reader and theatregoer Amy enjoys being active outdoors. She makes the most of her surroundings, enjoying open-water swimming and long cycle rides from her home in Southwest France.

Amy qualified to teach English in 2011, and holds a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) from University of Manchester.
