Lucy's biography

Lucy is a highly experienced tutor with over six years of experience who is passionate about creating tailored lessons to ensure the progression of her students. She graduated with a First Class degree in History from Oxford University in 2019 before going on to complete the Teach First programme in Secondary English and cementing her love of education. She specialises in teaching Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 English. Her GCSE record is impressive, with her most recent class of Year 11 students achieving an average of a Grade higher than the rest of the school. She also taught a class of Year 12 resit students and 100% of the students improved their GCSE grade from a 3 to a 5 in the November retake.

Students enjoy being in Lucy’s classroom as she makes the effort to make sure that they feel seen and heard. She places emphasis on inclusion and adapts her lessons to tailor for different needs such as ADHD, ADD, dyslexia and EAL. She once taught a Year 7 student who was illiterate and could not read or write in any language. She created an ‘emoticon’ style code for the student to be able to participate in the lessons and designed a morning intervention for him to help the student re-integrate into the school timetable.

Lucy has also recently tutored students in 13+ school entrance exams and helped students get into the prestigious schools of Wickham Abbey and Dulwich College. In addition, Lucy has prepared students for the Oxford and Cambridge interview process in History and the Oxford HAT test. She has also supported students with preparing personal statements to assist students with applying to their chosen universities. The students who she has helped have got into their first choice Russel Group universities including Edinburgh, Newcastle and Durham.

Testimonials:

A parent of the tutee who passed the Dulwich College entrance exam following Lucy’s tuition:
“I wanted to share my thanks and gratitude for your help with my son for his 13 plus exams. You have been brilliant, especially as we had limited time at our disposal but your attention on the all important exam techniques meant that my son was well prepared.”

A parent who employed Lucy to help prepare her two children's personal statements. Both students got into their first choice university:
“She was professional and really helped them pin point their own unique skills within their chosen subjects. [The students] spoke of her being helpful in resourcefulness and fleshing out different ideas and elaborating on their skills and qualities. […] I can without doubt say she was indispensable in the whole application process. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.”

IB Experience

Lucy has tutored students in both IB and A-Level History and appreciate the distinctions between the demands of the examinations.
