Biology, Chemistry and Science

Miranda's biography:

Miranda graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in Biochemistry, during which time she spent a year on the scholarship programme at the University of California, Berkeley and a summer doing a research project for the US Department of Agriculture. A desire to teach led her to train through the prestigious Teach First program, a fast-track route into the classroom for high achieving graduates. Here she gained a PGCE whilst teaching a full timetable in a challenging inner-city school, becoming deputy head of a large science department and taking responsibility for the GCSE results over of 200 students. Under her watch these results improved by over 20%. She has recently completed a Masters degree in Leadership and Education at the Institute of Education.

Miranda is currently studying undergraduate Medicine, something she brings into her tutoring with a high-level understanding of science that is both current and profound. Returning to being a student from the classroom means that she understands the frustrations that can occur with learning while also having the benefit of teaching experience to adapt my approach to suit the learner. When not teaching or tutoring, Miranda enjoys surfing and represents her tennis club in league competitions. (When the English weather doesn't allow for either, she has recently converted to running).

Miranda's qualifications:

Miranda qualified to teach Science in 2011, and holds a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) from Canterbury Christchurch University College.
