How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability

Frankie's biography
Frankie is a qualified Assessor of Dyslexia and Level 7 Specialist Teacher- Assessor in Dyslexia and Literacy. Frankie is able to provide assessments for both children and adults who experience difficulties in Literacy and provide diagnostic reports which can then be shared with schools providing guidance on how best to support the students and highlighting areas of both strength and weakness. She holds an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) and is a Member of the Dyslexia Guild. Over recent years she has studied with both Middlesex University and Dyslexia Action to obtain the above qualifications. She is currently studying for a MEd in Dyslexia and Literacy to further complement her current qualifications.
Over the last eleven years, Frankie has had the privilege of working with a number of children, who have all shared the same goal of gaining confidence in their education and learning, to allow them to make progress and enhance their educational experiences. Whilst maintaining an outstanding teaching record during her time working as a classroom teacher, Frankie has engaged in private tutoring for over eight years with excellent results.
Frankie’s current tutoring experience varies from general support for children ranging from age four to sixteen, for School subjects focusing mostly on English and Mathematics, and preparation for School Entrance Examinations, including the ISEB at 11+, pre-test examinations, 13+ and 7+. The preparation for these examinations requires an advanced knowledge of English, Mathematics and Non-Verbal, Spatial and Verbal Reasoning, in most cases. Having prepared children in these areas for over nine years, Frankie knows the academic level and understanding which children would need to be working at, in order to pass these tests, if this was a desired outcome by a family. By quickly establishing a student’s strengths and weaknesses, Frankie works together with the student (and family) to ensure they are well prepared for any potential upcoming examinations. Having worked with children recently who have gained entry into highly competitive English independent selective schools, including Sevenoaks School, Westminster School, Highgate School, Alleyn’s School, Dulwich College and UCS, Frankie has showed she is able to transfer her knowledge and teach any student in such a way that would enable them to succeed. Most recently, she has also supported families with these application processes when they have needed support with examination provisions, to ensure the needs of their child were going to be taken into consideration. These instances were specifically for children with Dyslexia, ASD and ADHD.
Teaching and working with children is her passion, and Frankie feels fortunate and privileged to have been in this career for eleven years. Encouraging children to become curious learners who are inquisitive about the world around them, is a huge part of her teaching philosophy, and Frankie ensures that all of her students are given every opportunity to do this whenever possible. Each child’s wellbeing is of utmost importance, and she strives to create lessons, which are structured in ways that fully encompass each individual’s learning style. Through years of experience in both teaching and tutoring, she has encountered many different learner profiles, styles and techniques; for this reason, Frankie knows how vital it is that each lesson is unique and specific to each individual pupil. By quickly assessing each student’s learning style, she creates lessons tailored exactly to each child’s needs and is able to highlight areas of both strengths and weaknesses.
For Frankie, building professional and positive relationships is of the highest importance. By providing an open, friendly and gentle yet firm approach, she believes children are more likely to enjoy and excel in their learning, and this is something she has witnessed with the students she has had the pleasure of working with over the years.
During Frankie’s time studying towards her teaching degree, she attended the Institute of Education, in London, where she specialised in Mathematics. Recognising each individual’s approach to Mathematics is essential in order to teach effectively and for each student to learn to the best of their ability and reach their full potential. Having been exposed to the many different ways of learning and teaching, Frankie is confident teaching Mathematics in ways that suit each individual and learning style. Every child deserves every opportunity possible in order to reach their goals and aspirations, and Frankie feels fortunate to be in a position where she is able to support a number of children to achieve this.
Teaching is her passion, and sharing her knowledge and experience is something she does on a daily basis. Each child presents their own strengths and weaknesses, and her role is to adapt to them individually and teach accordingly, enabling each individual to thrive in all aspects of their life, both educationally and personally.
