Isabel has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:
Isabel has also worked with children aiming to attend Portland Place, St Catherine's Bramley, Tormead, Trinity and Whitgift, and has worked with children preparing to sit the Wandsworth Test.
After she qualified to teach in 2013, Isabel taught English Literature and English Language at KS3, GCSE and A Level for three years at Ursuline High School in Wimbledon, an Ofsted rated outstanding comprehensive. Consistently judged as an outstanding teacher, Isabel was asked to open her classroom to colleagues and parents to showcase innovative teaching. She has taught students of all abilities with a diverse range of educational needs, inspiring them to fulfil their creative potential and to achieve excellent results.
Isabel is passionate about keeping up to date with new developments in learning. That is why she was one of the first teachers to train at King's College London in the Let's Think in English programme. This new style of teaching helps students to develop the reasoning skills that are so important for enjoying English and for succeeding in the new GCSE and A Level exams.
Isabel also has several years of experience as a tutor and academic mentor, and she finds it especially rewarding to work with students one-to-one and in small groups. She left classroom teaching in August 2016 to become a full-time tutor. Tutoring allows her to get back to what she loves about teaching: focusing on the needs of each student and designing exciting and inspiring lessons.
Isabel believes that students succeed when their learning goals are not abstract or dictated by someone else but are personally meaningful. She takes time to really get to know her students so she can put their learning into this context. She also believes that students learn best when they can see the real-world application of their knowledge and skills and when they are encouraged to aspire to the highest standards. This is why her own education and professional background is such an asset to her as a tutor.
After graduating from Cambridge in 2006, Isabel worked in the media for six years as a copywriter and communications officer. She can show students how their English studies can empower them to enter this fast paced and exciting world, and she knows exactly what it takes to succeed.
When she's not teaching, Isabel loves keeping fit and healthy and getting outside (whatever the weather) for a run around the park. She is also a passionate reader and writer and tends to have about six books on the go simultaneously!
Isabel qualified to teach English in 2013, and holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Roehampton University.

"We set Isabel a rather lofty challenge - to unlock our son’s love of English which initially was buried quite deeply!! Before she arrived our 9 year old would shed tears if asked to write creatively. His love of maths, with all the logical progression that it provided him, seemed to hinder his ability to trust his instincts when it came to writing. She far exceeded our hopes for the outcome. By giving him the time to fall in love with language he ended up so eager to write he received an award recently at his school for his poetry writing. Her patience and responsiveness were always visible and she gave him a clear pathway to ‘success’ which his maths brain delighted in. We’re very grateful to Isabel. "

"Isabel is goal focused on the exams yet manages to keep a truculent child of mine engaged and motivated. That alone is an achievement. Aside from that my son has made excellent progress with Isabel and we are very pleased as parents."

If you decide to study English literature beyond GCSE, it is important that you ask yourself "why" and justify your choice. Whether you are a bookworm wanting to pursue your love of literature, or see the subject as a way to develop your communication skills, there really is no right answer.
