Jeni's biography

Having studied Biological Sciences and gained her PGCE at King’s College London, Jeni has 25 years of teaching and tutoring experience: working across the globe in several international schools; teaching prep and secondary students Sciences and Maths; working in pastoral roles within boarding houses; and privately tutoring children in family homes.

Most recently, Jeni spent six years as Head of Biology at an award-winning London school, delivering A-level Biology to over 100 students each year to raise achievement to exceptionally high levels of 73% A*/A (2022) across the cohort. She has extensive experience of assisting students to make successful university applications to Medicine, Dentistry, Oxbridge and Russell Group Science degrees, including personal statement guidance, entrance exam preparation and interview training.

Jeni is now a full-time tutor. She has experience in tutoring KS3 Science, GCSE and IGCSE Sciences (Biology Chemistry and Physics), Biology A-level and IB, KS3 and MYP Maths, and GCSE and IGCSE Maths and can also tutor for the British Biology Olympiad. Jeni has prepared thousands of students for exams, with experience of the AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge International exam boards. She features revision strategies and study skills as standard in all her lessons, plus mindfulness techniques to build the mental stamina to succeed under exam stress. Jeni mainly tutors online but is available to teach in person for some London locations.

Jeni has experience working with neurodiverse students, including those on the autistic spectrum, with ADHD and dyslexia, and those without a diagnosis. She is confident working both with exceptionally talented students who are pushing themselves to top grades and universities, and with those who are less self-assured with their ability and need support to progress and find their path. Jeni can intuitively identify the needs of her tutees and bring out their full potential.

As a tutor, Jeni understands that excelling in science and maths results from learning how to learn and as such, she is passionate about cultivating metacognitive skills in learners, empowering students to think critically, problem-solve effectively, and excel in their academic journey as a life-long learner.

Recent Case Studies:

A Y13 student was planning to apply for Physics or Engineering at RG Universities. They needed to be certain the Biology A level grade would be an A, as this was the weakest subject and guidance with the university application was required. Jeni reviewed areas of Biology A level with particular focus on exam technique, using past paper questions. The personal statement was reviewed and improved substantially, using material that the student hadn’t considered important or relevant.

Outcome: The student gained an A grade in Biology and went on to study Physics at Swansea University.

A Y11 student whose education had been disrupted and was now enrolled at online school was struggling in several subjects, particularly Maths and Chemistry. Jeni was engaged in September to review all IGCSE content in these subjects and to guide the studying and revision strategies in preparation for the Summer exams.

Outcome: The student managed to raise her Maths and Chemistry grades from 2’s to 5’s, and gained a place at sixth form school for the desired creative arts course.

A Y13 student who had applied for Medicine at highly competitive universities wished to gain interview experience. Jeni embarked on regular sessions to review all aspects of the Medicine interview process, including MMI's and panel interviews, and gave direction on presence and calming techniques.

Outcome: The student gained three offers, including one from Imperial University, which they accepted.
