Forest School Entrance Guide

Working with our child, Emily focussed on essay writing, reading comprehension tests, synonyms, antonyms and interview prep. Emily was fantastic at polishing our child's essay writing skills and walking her through different aspects of what makes for engaging writing. She did it in a fun and effective way. As a result, we saw a marked improvement in her stories. In reading comprehension tests, we specifically valued how she taught our child to provide good quality open-ended responses within a limited time. Preparation for interviews was also very useful and engaging. She stretched our child’s interviewing ability by exposing her to a wide variety of questions, and advising her on the quality of replies and body language. Emily’s reports on the lessons and progress have been thorough and we have fully enjoyed working with her. Our daughter seconds all the above and adds that Emily was very quick at identifying her weaknesses and helping her improve. So far, she has successfully made her way through different exams and has been offered several interviews.

Kelly has been fantastic at supporting our daughter for her 11+ exams and interviews. Our daughter looks forward to her lessons. We could not be more happy.

Emily has done a brilliant job of forging a learning relationship with my son such that he actually wants to have sessions. I was fully expecting significant push back from him at having to do extra work at the weekend. That hasn't happened and indeed he is really happy to do 'extra' work because of how brilliant Emily is.

Kelly is approachable and kind and put our son at ease very quickly. She is very knowledgeable in relation to the subject matter and also is able to explain concepts clearly. The sessions with Kelly are fun and she is very adaptive, tailoring her delivering to the child's method of learning

Laura was really engaging and helped our son with his comprehension and writing prose. He is dyslexic and Laura’s teaching methods made it fun for him. He learned a lot, really enjoyed the process and now really enjoys writing. The one to one sessions really helped understanding how to approach comprehension. We decided not to go down the 11+ route in the end but I am glad he had some extra help to build his confidence.

Jennifer tutored our son Finn and he really enjoyed and benefited from his sessions with her. Jennifer quickly got to know Finn and the work each week was tailored to his needs and interests. Jennifer set homework which she went through with Finn each week. She also provided really helpful feedback. We were really pleased with the progress that Finn made with Jennifer and would highly recommend her.

Michael has been a brilliant tutor for my son, always encouraging and supportive, yet also challenging him to think hard and do his very best. Even after just one lesson, my son said he now had a much better understanding of what his English teacher in school was asking of him, and how to work with a text. He also said Michael made him feel very happy, because he felt praised and appreciated. My son has thrived under Michael's very capable instruction, and has done very well in the exam, after less than half a year of tutoring.
