We believe that qualified teachers are uniquely positioned to provide outstanding tuition. However, we also recognise that not all qualified teachers excel in their craft. That’s why all of our tutors are not only certified educators but have also successfully passed our rigorous assessment process, proving they are truly exceptional teachers!

Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Woody's biography
Woody is a fully qualified English teacher, GCSE / IGCSE examiner and former head of department with a First Class BA (Hons) in English Literature and Creative Writing, together with a Masters in Creative Writing and Literature, for which she was awarded a Distinction. With over sixteen years of teaching and tutoring experience in the UK, China, West Africa and Hungary, she has been a full-time online tutor since 2020, spending her mornings preparing international students overseas for their entrance examinations for top UK boarding schools. Experienced in teaching the Eton List Test, the Harrow Test, ISEB Pre-Tests, Common Entrance, UKiset, CAT 4 and IELTS, as well as the numerous other independent and grammar school entrance examinations, Woody has been successful in helping her students gain places at highly regarded British independent schools, including Eton, Harrow, Dulwich, Wycombe Abbey, Marlborough College, Cheltenham Ladies' College, Tonbridge, Merchant Taylors, City of London School, Downe House, Winchester, Radley, Wellington and St. Catherine's, Bramley, to name a few.
With a CELTA qualification from Cambridge University, she is highly experienced in supporting international students who are learning in their second language. Additionally, she has received British Council training as an IELTS tutor. In the afternoons and evenings, she teaches UK-based students, preparing them for entrance examinations, GCSEs / IGCSEs and A Levels (she is familiar with AQA, Cambridge, Edexcel and Eduqas examination boards). She has also designed an online curriculum and teaching materials for a company in the US providing elite educational services to students in Asia. Many of her freelance articles on literary heritage and health issues have been published in UK magazines and she has previously worked in publishing as an academic proofreader and editor for Taylor and Francis Ltd, and so is passionate about correct punctuation and grammar. Woody loves her subject and loves teaching; she is a friendly, inspiring and professional tutor who is focused on building student confidence and helping her students to develop a clear understanding of all the required skills and to also be able to demonstrate those skills to an exceptionally high standard within timed conditions.
