Katie is an experienced primary school teacher who taught for over twenty-five years in different schools across the country before becoming a full time tutor. For the past five years, she held the position of Deputy Headteacher at one of The Sunday Times top twenty independent schools for Academic success. During her time as a classroom teacher, she has taught in all year groups from Reception to Year 6. Her most recent role included ‘hands on’ experience of preparing students for all types of exams including the eleven plus and independent school entrance exams as well as working with individuals to support their learning and ‘close the gap’ between themselves and their peers. Part of her role included identifying students strengths and areas for improvements before meeting with parents and students to discuss and advise on the next phase of education for their child. Along with her classroom experience, Katie has experience tutoring students outside school from Year 1 to Year 6 both online and in person.
Katie has a proven ability to promote academic excellence, nurturing students and developing a positive learning culture. She is passionate about the importance of reading for all and supported younger children with phonics and developing their writing. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and inclusive approach to focusing on ensuring all her students are supported to achieve the best they can be. Organised, proactive and fun loving. A lifelong learner she is deeply committed to ensuring all her students achieve success, her lessons are not a one size fits all but tailored to the individual’s interests and needs.
Outside teaching she enjoys being outdoors, going on adventures with her family and walking her mischievous dog called Jasper.
For the past five years she has been responsible for preparing children in Year 5 for West Midlands 11 plus entrance examinations and independent school entrance examinations. Each year numerous children (over 75% of the cohort were successful in their first choice of school) Last year 2023 from her class of 26 children were offered the following places for secondary education:

Owl Tutors school entrance training
Katie has successfully completed the Owl Tutors training course in 11 Plus exam preparation. This means they have a thorough understanding of the structure, content and demands of these exams and are qualified to prepare students. Training is delivered by Holly, a highly experienced school entrance tutor and member of the Owl Tutors team.

Katie qualified to teach Primary education in 1995, and holds a B.Ed Hons from University of Wolverhampton.
