Lorna is a highly experienced and dedicated teacher who has worked in some of the top international and independent schools in Spain and state schools in the UK. After obtaining her BA Honours in English Language (2:1), Lorna went on to gain her PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) with the University of Sunderland and was awarded QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) through a School Centred Initial Teacher Training programme. After this, Lorna worked in Primary and Secondary education in the UK and Spain. She made the transition to online tutoring last year and has since helped plenty of students confidently pass their English Language and Literature IGCSE exams, 11/13+ exams and various Cambridge exams, as well as help students improve grammar, written communication and pronunciation.
Lorna has had extensive training in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and IB Diploma (IBDP) and specialises in IB / IGCSE / GCSE (AQA and Edexcel) English Language and Literature and English Language Acquisition. Further to this, Lorna has had training in delivering 11+ and 13+ exam preparation.
Lorna has a warm yet professional manner with all of her students and easily builds rapport by creating a safe and comfortable space for her students to flourish. She holds very high standards for her students and encourages them to take ownership of their own learning by organising their study schedules, self-assessments and goal setting to ensure they are intrinsically motivated to succeed.
Lorna is very passionate about instilling a love for reading, writing and literature and helping students to feel confident tackling more difficult texts and developing a critical eye. She has a plethora of techniques for a variety of different learners (students with ADHD, autism, anxiety) to make this achievable and accessible for all.
IB Experience
Lorna has worked for 2 and a half years in an IB school in Madrid and has extensive knowledge of the PYP, MYP and DP programmes. Specifically, Lorna taught Year 6 (transitional year) PYP, MYP English Language and Literature, MYP Language Acquisition and DP English Language and Literature. Her primary focus was on gifted and talented and high-achieving students, whom she consistently motivated to surpass expectations.
Collaborating closely with MYP/DP coordinators, Lorna actively participated in weekly Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning within the IB framework. This ongoing commitment has equipped her with a comprehensive knowledge base and a wealth of tools and resources, ensuring she can effectively support students in this area.
Lorna also worked as a mentor for students writing their Extended Essay in Diploma IB (16-18 years) as well as mentoring personal projects for students in their last year of MYP.

Lorna qualified to teach English in 2020, and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Enducation from GORSE SCITT.
