Claire has an extensive background working in primary and special educational needs education. She has over twenty years of experience working in Key Stage 1 and Early Years classes in London primary schools. She also taught children receiving care at The Evelina Hospital School for five years. For the past ten years Claire has taught at an outstanding primary school in Southwark. Claire has been central to preparing KS1 children for the end of year Phonics and English and Maths SATs. She has a good track record of facilitating good to outstanding progress in these areas at KS1.
Claire also holds the role of English as an Additional Language Co-ordinator and teaches children with EAL throughout the primary age range.
Claire started tutoring 18 months ago and loves working 1:1 and supporting children with their learning. She is keen to spend more time tutoring. One of Claire’s strengths is devising creative and playful activities which bring a subject alive.
Claire has comprehensive experience of teaching phonics, reading and maths; children always have fun during her sessions. Claire is particularly skilled at encouraging children who lack confidence in maths, reading or writing. She combines high expectations with a friendly manner to ensure learning always takes place.
She graduated with a 2:1 in Performing Arts from De Montfort University, Leicester in 1997. She completed her PGCE from the University of Southampton in 2000 and gained her QTS in the UK.
