David

David has taught English, History, Geography, Religious Studies and Drama as a full-time schoolteacher. David has also tutored children privately from the age 11 up to 18, specialising in encouraging students to find joy in their learning, exploring new ways of looking at the topics they have been set. David grew up in London, where he was educated at Dulwich College Preparatory School and Westminster School. At Westminster, David completed 9 O Levels, 4 A Levels (English, History, History of Art & Architecture, and Russian) and 2 S Levels (both Grade 1). He then went up to Oriel College, Oxford (Oriel is Oxford's oldest Royal foundation and is celebrating its 700th anniversary in 2026), where he took a BA Hons in English Language and Literature.

From Oxford, David went into the film industry before going to Canada's foremost film school, at Concordia University in Montreal, where he gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema (with Distinction). He moved back to the UK before heading to Australia, where he spent many years in film and television. His feature films starred Glenn Close, Pauline Collins, Frances McDormand, Juliana Margulies, Naomi Watts and Cate Blanchett, among others. His films were selected for prestigious festivals and David was nominated for and won awards, including a nomination for an Australian Academy Award, Australia's highest screen accolade.

David then changed gears and started to teach, firstly lecturing at universities in the UK, Canada and Australia. He then qualified as a secondary school teacher (Graduate Diploma of Education) in Sydney, Australia. David taught at schools in Sydney before securing a role at one of the top academic schools in Queensland - St Joseph's College Gregory Terrace (known as 'Terrace'). In 2026, one of the members of the Oxford Boat Race crew had been at Terrace before going on to win a place at David's old college at Oxford - Oriel. It is no mean feat to get a place at Oxford, especially so if you are applying from as far away as Australia, and it is a mark of the quality of a Terrace education that sees boys going on to first rate universities, even winning Rhodes Scholarships to Oxford (Terrace celebrated its 18th Rhodes scholar while David was teaching there). David also taught English at Brighton College in the UK where he helped students applying for Oxbridge. He continues to write for film and television and is a published author and poet.
