Matt

Matthew is an experienced teacher and senior educational leader with over twelve years of experience across both state and independent school settings. He currently serves as an Assistant Headteacher and previously held the role of Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment at a leading preparatory school in the West Midlands. Throughout his career, he has developed a strong reputation for combining high academic expectations with warmth, encouragement and an ability to build excellent relationships with pupils and families.

He has taught across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with extensive experience supporting pupils through SATs, grammar school preparation and selective secondary school transition. His work within high-performing school environments has provided him with significant experience supporting ambitious pupils aiming for competitive independent and grammar school destinations, including King Edward’s schools and other leading regional schools. He is particularly skilled at helping pupils develop academic confidence, resilience and strong independent learning habits alongside excellent examination outcomes.

Alongside classroom teaching, Matthew has led whole-school curriculum development, staff training and assessment strategy. He regularly mentors teachers, delivers professional development and supports pupils through highly personalised intervention and coaching. His leadership experience means he has a deep understanding of curriculum progression, assessment expectations and how to tailor learning effectively to individual needs and learning styles.

Matthew holds a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status from the University of Warwick and a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in American Literature and History from the University of Nottingham. He has also completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL). In addition, he has undertaken professional development in areas including autism, speech and language development, safeguarding and adaptive teaching.

His tutoring approach focuses on building confidence, creating positive relationships and ensuring pupils feel both challenged and supported. He believes that children make the strongest progress when learning is engaging, structured and personalised carefully to their individual strengths and areas for development. Calm, approachable and encouraging in manner, he works hard to ensure pupils enjoy learning whilst also developing the discipline, resilience and study skills required for long-term academic success.
