Simon has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:
At both Lord Wandsworth College at St. Mary's School, Ascot, I prepared and marked entrance examination papers for pupils applying for entry at 11 and 13, based on the syllabus and format of the equivalent ISEB papers. As second in the department, I also advised parents on preparing their children for the paper. I have also provided tuition in preparation for the entrance examination for Salesian College.
Simon is a graduate of Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge and completed his Master's degree at Royal Holloway, University of London. After a period as a researcher and university lecturer, he decided to switch careers into school teaching, qualifying through the Graduate Teacher Programme in 2003.
With over 15 years' teaching experience, Simon has worked in both the state sector and several of the country's leading independent schools, including St. Mary's School, Ascot and Lord Wandsworth College. He has taught mathematics at every level from Key Stage 2 to A Level Further Mathematics, as well as coaching students applying for Oxbridge entry via Pre-U and STEP papers, guidance in interview technique and provision of 'mock' interviews.
Simon is also a highly experienced private tutor, both in person and online, helping prepare children for entrance/scholarship examinations to independent schools and public examinations at 16 and 18, as well as adults sitting professional examinations in fields as diverse as accountancy and nursing. In the course of his career he has received many testimonial letters and emails from students, expressing appreciation for the manner in which his support and encouragement has contributed to their success.
"Thank you for making such a difference to Hannah's feelings about Maths. Her confidence has continually grown with your careful approach, and her desire to 'get it right' has meant she has been prepared to keep trying no matter what! All this has been down to you."
-- Julie, GCSE parent
"Thank you so much for all the patience, time and commitment you have shown me. You've been brilliant! At the beginning my confidence with numbers was at rock bottom, but over time you've motivated me and made me believe that I can do it, and thank you for that. I do appreciate it."
-- Emily, GCSE and A Level student
"Simon is an excellent Maths tutor. Through his work with my son he has helped to boost both his confidence and enjoyment of the subject."
-- Tanvir, GCSE parent
"It would not have been possible for me to achieve the grade I did without your guidance, and it's because of your help and efforts that I am now able to study for my Chartered Accountant qualification. I truly appreciate the effort you put in to help me progress and succeed in the subject. Our lessons will truly be missed."
-- Dan, A Level student
"Simon is extremely professional and encouraging with our daughter. Jasmine has been showing a lot more interest in her Maths and she now has a much stronger understanding of the subject. We have no hesitation in recommending Simon as a tutor."
-- Alison, Year 8 parent
"I would just like to thank you for all your help over the past few years. I know I struggled with confidence in maths before and you have managed to give me that in the subject. I could never have got the marks I have without your help. You have been a fantastic teacher and made the lessons enjoyable."
-- Bryony, Key Stage 3 and GCSE student
Simon qualified to teach Maths in 2005, and holds a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from General Teaching Council.
