Baxter's biography:
Baxter has recently taught maths at The Crest Academy in Brent for four years and has enjoyed being part of the development and positive change within his school. He completed the Teach First Leadership Development programme having graduated with a 2:1 in Physics and Philosophy in 2013; and has worked his way through leadership positions at the school. He became Key Stage 5 Coordinator during his year as a Newly Qualified Teacher and after two years was promoted to Lead Practitioner in charge of gifted and able students. He was responsible for the identification, tracking and stretching of the most able students throughout the school, as well as running whole school training sessions for staff on appropriate strategies to challenge students in the classroom. As lead practitioner in mathematics, he has mentored and coached beginner teachers within the maths department and across the school.
Within the last three years he has made considerable improvement to the percentage of A/A* grades achieved at GCSE within the school, including half of his students obtaining a Grade 8 and 9 in the most recent new specimen GCSE examination from June 2017. He has also created a bespoke pathway for students with an eagerness to succeed in Mathematics, by introducing and teaching the AQA Further Mathematics and OCR Additional Mathematics Course’s since January 2015.
Baxter has also been tutoring an A-level student from Highgate school since February 2017 – helping him complete his A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Now he is looking to tutor more this year having first noticed the high levels of progress that were possible at such a focused one-to-one level.
Having been awarded a full music and academic scholarship to Harrow School, Baxter understands the benefits that a great education can provide and feels connected to the movement to change student outcomes for the better.
Baxter believes the ease with which a teacher can build relationships with students, as their tutor, makes tutoring an ideal platform to motivate and guide students to their maximum potential.
In his spare time, Baxter enjoys playing the piano and ukulele, and enjoys travelling to new destinations around the world.
