Chris graduated from Cambridge after studying Natural Sciences, before receiving his Primary PGCE from Reading with an English Specialism. He has been a Key Stage 2 teacher for ten years - 7 of which at an 'Outstanding' Ofsted rated school. He has received extensive training in tutoring for 7+ and 11+ exams, and while living in Kent he helped children gain places in Maidstone Grammar School, Maidstone Girls Grammar School, Invicta Grammar School for Girls and Oakwood Grammar School.
He has now started tutoring full time in order to spend more time with his family and, in addition to entrance exams, he has also tutored children to beat their predicted GCSE grades in biology, physics and maths.
Chris has worked with children for 18 years, both in education and non-academic clubs. In this time, he has realised that the most important thing in helping children achieve their potential is to build a trusting relationship through respecting each child as an individual. He believes in helping children really understand what they are learning about, tailoring his teaching to each child’s specific needs and interests. He aims to build their confidence in order to encourage them to believe that they can improve and achieve aspirational goals. He does not have a set teaching style, as every child is an individual and what works best for one student may be completely different to what another one needs. He treats each child as an individual and adapts his teaching style to what will work best for them.
"My name is ********* and Chris has tutored me during the prominent years of my GCSE's outstandingly. He keeps up an enthusiastic mood and tries his best to come up with methods in order to recall effectively. At the beginning, i was stressed that i wouldn't achieve the grades i wanted to but now can confidently say that Chris's work and dedication had enabled me to build that confidence that was missing and resulted to my weaker performance.Furthermore , his confidence enabled me to recently in year 10 achieve an 8 (1 mark from a 9) in my latest physics topic test that had a bunch of hard questions.Chris also helped me in maths and biology and i am so sad to end my tutoring with him but will definitely push my brother to follow my lead!" - SS - iGCSE student for Maths, Physics and Biology
SS was working at grade 5 in Physics, Maths and Biology in Year 10. She achieved an 8 in Physics and 7s in Maths and Biology.
"Chris has been absolutely amazing with my son who is an autistic 12 year old. My son had been out of school for some time as he struggled in the environment, and while we were looking for a new school setting we did some online tutoring at home. My son did 3 sessions with Chris every week, covering both maths and science. Chris was brilliant with my son, he tailored the lessons to suit him and made them really fun and engaging so my very nervous and anxious son would laugh and even be a bit cheeky. He got so much out of every session, sometimes not even realising he was learning. I can not recommend Chris enough."
Chris has successfully completed the Owl Tutors training course in 7 Plus and 11 Plus exam preparation. This means they have a thorough understanding of the structure, content and demands of these exams and are qualified to prepare students. Training is delivered by Holly, a highly experienced school entrance tutor and member of the Owl Tutors team.
