Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session

Lotte was superb. I contacted her at short notice, before my daughter sat the 7-plus. Lotte had only a month or so to help my daughter prepare, but the difference she made was incalculable. She is intelligent, committed, and has huge power to enthuse. I cannot recommend her more highly and feel extremely lucky to have found her.

Lotte's biography
Lotte is a highly experienced qualified teacher who has taught in leading independent and state schools in Central London and the South East. She qualified in Primary Education in 2010 and specialises in KS1, KS2 and KS3. She is a specialist history teacher, with a degree from the University of Sussex (2:1). Lotte has run a number of departments within schools and has tutored many students one to one in addition to her teaching roles. Her primary areas of focus for school examinations are 7+, 8+, 9+, 11+ and 13+ and many of the pupils she has taught and tutored have gone on to schools such as Dulwich Prep, Dulwich College, Trinity School, Eaton House, More House School, Thomas’s and Alleyn’s.
Lotte has five years experience as a school governor for three London schools, acting under a federation. She was Chair of the Teaching and Learning Committee across the federation, as well as a special needs governor.
Lotte not only offers preparation for school entry but is also extremely well suited to pupils who are happy in their current schools but in need of some one to one support. This may be to consolidate key topics which have been flagged by internal examinations or subject teachers, to build confidence, stamina, speed and resilience, as well as supporting a pupil through key yearly transitions and increase in academic demands that come with school progression. This especially applies to school holidays, where routine and regular academic focus can cause a disruption in attainment and, therefore, confidence. She also offers tuition for pupils who are homeschooled and children with additional learning needs. As a teacher, and a parent of young children, Lotte knows how challenging and overwhelming the pressures of schooling are and the competitive nature of entrance exams and yearly school progression. From her experience, she know the key factors to successful one to one lessons and these are central to her approach:
- Ability to connect with each individual to build a trusting, encouraging and motivational relationship between tutor and tutee.
- The importance of listening to parents/carers and regular communication and feedback
- The use of a pupils’ strengths to tackle their weaknesses, as confidence and self-belief are the building blocks of success and happy learners who thrive
- The importance of bespoke lessons, tailored to the individual interests, needs and motivations as a catalyst for encouraging positive learning and achievement of set targets/goals
- A rigorous and thorough approach to learning but in a fun, creative and friendly environment
- The importance of a varied use of resources, not just text book led, which include play and games. Children learn best when they are having fun!
Lotte understands the challenges that both pupils and parents face when there are concerns over attainment in school and/or the school exam preparation and application process. She can help pupils and families with every aspect of the journey, from advice on the right schools suited for their child, to preparing to sit entrance exams, as well as time management and interview skills. Lotte works particularly well with younger children and those who lack confidence, or need motivation and encouragement to achieve their full potential. She aims to have a long lasting effect on all pupils she works with, instilling in them a passion for learning and a delight in inquisitive thought. Her students come away with a mature, methodical and adaptable approach to tackling academic hurdles in a calm, enthused and resilient way. A valuable life skill!
Lotte is extremely thorough and diligent, always going above and beyond in all that she does. Her pupils respond exceptionally well to her teaching and achieve academic success under her gentle guidance. Lotte also is very musical and offers instrumental lessons in the guitar in addition to the above. When Lotte is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family. She is an avid reader, keen cook and a lover of all the art galleries and museums that London has to offer!

School entrance experience
Lotte has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:
Lotte is an experienced educator and has worked alongside parents to deliver tutoring which is bespoke to their child, their child's needs and the family's goals. This has mainly centred around building confidence in a given subject, or subject areas, to fine tuning skills in order to sit internal prep school exams, SATS and school entrance exams. Lotte has played a vital role in preparing students who have gone on to sit exams for Trinity School, Fulham Prep, Eaton House, Dulwich Prep and Colet Court (St Paul's Junior). Lotte provides a tailored approach to lessons, bespoke to each child's needs and goals, as well as involving and providing regular feedback for parents, as they also play a vital part in their child's extra curricular learning process.
Engaging a child in the process, and finding their motivation, is key to all round success and makes for happier, healthier children and parents during, often, rigorous and stressful time frames and competitive assessments. Many of her pupils have gone on to secure places in leading London schools, sat internal exams with confidence and have bolstered their abilities and flair in areas where reticence was previously a defining factor.
