Tutor profile - Chrissie

Chrissie is a popular and experienced school entrance tutor with an extensive track record of success supporting students to some of the most selective independent schools in the country. She is an expert on the Kent and Bexley Tests and can provide consultancy guidance for school choices and "best fit". A specialist and qualified maths teacher, she is able to support with all elements of the 11 plus, including interview technique and confidence building.

In addition to her school entrance support, Chrissie is an experienced GCSE Edexcel examiner and can teach mathematics up to A level Further Maths level. Recently, she has supported a number of students to achieve the highest grades at GCSE and A level. Given her success Chrissie has become a go to option for members of the Owl team's own children.

Drawing on her 15 years of tutoring experience, Chrissie has excellent experience of working with international families as well as those in the UK. This ranges from preparation for 11 plus exams to comprehensive IGCSE Maths tuition and A level and IB support.

Chrissie is passionate about tutoring and enjoys challenging her students to reach their full potential. Her main focus is transparency and relationships. She believes in creating a productive and friendly environment based on honesty where a tutee is both comfortable and confident and able to make mistakes without being judged. She uses Online tools such as Bitpaper (an online whiteboard) to create interactive activities designed to engage the student and make learning as enjoyable and interesting as possible.

During the Summer months, she has taught at an International Pre-University Summer school (Oxford Royale Academy). working with students aged 16 - 18 who wish to expand their knowledge in Maths beyond the school curriculum to prepare for University. In the summer, she also runs private 11+ Summer Group Sessions for students to sit past paper examinations and gain experience and personalised feedback for preparation for the selective school examinations.

Outside tutoring, Chrissie is an avid sportswoman. Chrissie is a passionate boulderer and enjoys challenging herself to formulate the best solution to climbing puzzles. She enjoys hiking, climbing mountains and dog training to Kennel Club Standards. Socially, Chrissie enjoys meeting for coffees and gaming including board games, video games and LARP (Live Action Role Play) where she attends a wizard-themed school twice a year and EMPIRE (medieval style LARP). Chrissie also enjoys studying as she believes it is important and humbling, to retain the skills required to learn and also be reminded of the patience required to teach. Currently, she is studying Philosophy and writing a course on how to use Graphical Calculators.
