Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability
Excellent tutor who really knows how to engage his students.

Matthew's biography
Matthew achieved a first class honours degree in Mathematics and Theology at the University of Exeter, before fulfilling his ambition of becoming a teacher, by completing a PGCE in primary teaching with modern languages at the same university. He worked at boarding schools in South India and Wiltshire, teaching mathematics to GCSE and key stage 3, as well as teaching English as a foreign language and coaching tennis during the holidays, before moving to a prep school in West London where he taught for 7 years, becoming the Head of Key Stage 2 Science. As a Year 6 teacher, he specialized in preparing children to take 11+ exams, and was able to get children into excellent schools, such as St Paul's boys and girls schools, Westminster Under, King's Wimbledon, Latymer, and Eton to name just a few. He now teaches in the Junior section of a British boarding school in India, taking a Year 4 and 5 class. Other than teaching, Matthew has a lifelong love of learning and enjoys participating in music groups, and playing and coaching tennis and cricket.
Matthew believes that although the exam process can be gruelling, it also provides a wonderful opportunity for teachers, children and parents to work together to create a positive, productive and growing environment, where everyone can be challenged and succeed! Having worked in the 11+ environment for 7 years, he believes that exams are a springboard, not just into the child's next school, but also into a thriving life of learning.

Matthew has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:
Matthew worked at a prep school in Chiswick for nearly 5 years, and for 3 years in Year 6 preparing children for online and paper entrance exams, including the online ISEB pre-tests, which were particularly prevalent during 2020. He was Head of Department for KS2 science, and oversaw the 11+ science exams (for boarding schools) in Form 6. He now works in a boarding school in South India where he also teaches Year 6, and works as a part time tutor online.
Matthew has had a good deal of success in preparing children for these examinations. In just the last year, he has helped a number of children to gain places at some of the top London schools.
