Ruth's biography

After graduating with a BSc Psychology(2:1) from Cardiff, Ruth has taught in various selective independent schools in North London for 23 years, including four years as a Year 6 teacher at St Albans High School for Girls. She has a wealth of experience in preparation for entrance exams, including English, Verbal and Non verbal reasoning and Maths, specialising in teaching maths concepts, solving contextual problems, developing creative writing skills and preparing for reading comprehension.

Alongside enjoying the academic challenges Ruth has the ability to develop and nurture a pupil's confidence and bring out the best in all students. Her pastoral care is a proven strength over 20 years of teaching experience.

In the 2021-22 academic year Ruth has successfully prepared students for City of London Girls, St Pauls, North London Collegiate, St Albans High School for Girls, Haberdasher Girls, JAGS, Godolphin, South Hampstead, Channing, Francis Holland, Queen's College, St Margaret's (including 3 scholarships).

In the 2022 - 23 academic year Ruth has completed long term preparation in maths for pupils to Wycombe Abbey, St Pauls Girls school, Wimbledon High, Godolphin and Latymer and Notting Hill GDST .

Ruth taught at St Albans High School for Girls in Year 6 for 4 years. This involved preparing girls for 11+ Entrance exams and the North London consortium papers, writing references and preparing for scholarship exams (including academic exams, oral exams, group interviews and extension work). Girls Ruth taught went on to be awarded academic scholarships are as follows: St Albans High School for Girls (8 scholarships), North London Collegiate (2 scholarships). Haberdashers' Aske's Girls school (3 scholarships) Queenswood (1 scholarship) St Paul's Girls school, London (1 scholarship) and Berkhamsted School for Girls (3 scholarships).

Owl Tutors school entrance training

Ruth has successfully completed the Owl Tutors training course in 11 Plus exam preparation. This means they have a thorough understanding of the structure, content and demands of these exams and are qualified to prepare students. Training is delivered by Holly, a highly experienced school entrance tutor and member of the Owl Tutors team.
