Caroline has over 23 years of teaching experience, ages 3-13 across Private, Free and State schools, and has been Head of English at a leading Prep School in Surrey for a number of years. She has immense knowledge of the rigorous 7, 11 and 13 plus processes and has vast experience in preparing pupils, of all abilities, for the senior school entrance exams, including successful scholarship preparation.
She is now working full time as a tutor, at home, online and in schools supporting a range of ages, working with students for 7, 11 and 13 plus examinations and also GCSE students, 1:1 or small groups, in local secondary schools.
In addition, Caroline has key experience for Kent, Bucks and Sutton Grammar schools, aiding students' entry to these schools over the last few years; regularly prepares pupils for entry to over 15 different senior schools around the local areas of London, Surrey and Berkshire.
Her results are impressive each year, with first-choice senior school entry gained and 20-30% of her clients, of varying abilities, consistently gain scholarships from around 8 different senior schools.
Caroline’s passion and forte is to embed high-level vocabulary, elevate creative writing, break down the complexities of comprehension tasks, pick apart questions and modelling answers to enable accurate understanding.
She easily gains a good rapport with tutees, putting them at ease and quickly builds confidence in pupils. Recent examples of this: Caroline gained a new Year 6 tutee who was lacking confidence in English and finding it difficult in school and his mum was after some booster sessions to bring him up to speed. Within 3 weeks of seeing this pupil, mum fed back that her son now looked forward to Fridays and the time with Caroline and that he was already using some of the new vocabulary and techniques that had been taught during the tutor sessions, giving him confidence and a new interest in the subject.
A Year 2 pupil, significantly behind in learning, has made huge leaps in both outcome and confidence and end of year tests support this evidence, with his teacher stating, " one to one weekly sessions with the tutor have undoubtedly aided the learning trajectory this year."
