We believe that qualified teachers are uniquely positioned to provide outstanding tuition. However, we also recognise that not all qualified teachers excel in their craft. That’s why all of our tutors are not only certified educators but have also successfully passed our rigorous assessment process, proving they are truly exceptional teachers!

Why do our tutors cost what they do?
They are all experienced qualified teachers.
Many of our school entrance tutors have significant experience and track records in preparing students for competitive school entrance exams
Many of our tutors are also examiners
They have achieved academic excellence themselves
Many of our tutors have achieved other relevant skills such as qualifications to assist students with special educational needs
How can I save money when using an Owl Tutor
Consider online tuition if you have not already done so. Most students at KS2 or above will have no problem engaging just as efficiently with an online tutor than a face to face one. Face to face tuition can be up to 50% more expensive for the same tutor!
Consider shorter sessions. Most tuition sessions are one hour. 40 minute sessions can often be effective and could reduce your fees by 33%.
Find out if there are times that you can offer to your tutor that are more convenient for them. Most tutors find it difficult to fill their hours during the day (9am to 3pm) in the week. Many of them will accept lower rates at these times.
How do our fees work?
Our tutors set the rates that they wish to be paid on each job. The rate that they will request will be dependent on a number of factors including:
The rate they wish to earn per hour
Whether the job is face to face or online
How much preparation time is required for each session
The tutor's remaining availability

Adam's biography
As a teacher, Head of English and Director of Studies in both the state and independent sectors, Adam has a wealth of experience in achieving the best possible academic outcomes for students across the age and ability range.
Adam's interest in memory, cognition and vocabulary acquisition - together with the subject specialism he has acquired having studied English literature to both BA and MA level - means that he is able to provide high quality, interactive and rigorous programmes of learning for each and every child. Notable achievements include helping students to earn academic scholarships with top grades in English to schools such as St Paul's and Hampton, as well as implementing a programme of evidenced-based learning within as a school as part of his National Professional Qualification for Middle leadership.
Adam himself loves learning, and he feels that his enthusiasm in this respect is one of the reasons why his students have enjoyed working with him.

School entrance experience
Adam has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:
Having taught and led in 11/13+ environments since 2011, Adam has a huge amount of experience in helping students obtain offers and scholarships from both boarding and day schools, including St Paul's, Eton, Hampton, Winchester, Kingston Grammar, Wimbledon High, Putney High, Canford, Epsom and Emanuel. In 11/13+ contexts, he has taught children from academic years 3 - 8 (KS2 - KS3), and is therefore well aware of what a robust academic pathway through school looks like.
During his time as Head of English, his teaching and leadership led to an improvement in the English grades awarded to the students at 13+ Common Entrance. The percentage of A/A- grades attained by his scholarship set in the two years prior to his arrival was around 50%; at the end of his first year, the figure stood at over 90%, and during his tenure did not drop below 80%. Adam allso helped a number of students to win academic scholarships, with top grades in English, for St Paul's, Hampton and Canford.
Finally, having experienced three separate ISI inspections, the last two as a Middle and Senior Leader respectively, Adam has very clear view of what academic success looks like, and the processes by which this success can be obtained by his students.
