Melisa's biography

Melisa is an experienced and qualified teacher who cares about the progress of her students. She has worked with a variety of age groups as well as students of different needs, including those with SEND. She particularly enjoys working with students to support catching up and encouraging a love for learning. With this, Melisa supports accelerated progress and ensures her students are confident in their lessons.

Melisa is an enthusiastic teacher who believes that all children need to be given the appropriate tools in order to access learning. She has carried out a Masters in Special Needs and from this understands how to be break down concepts further, make learning more hands on and ensure that children feel supported.

Melisa has 8 years experience in teaching in primary education, including renowned international schools. In addition to this, Melisa has supported children to prepare effectively in 7+ and 11+ examinations.

IB Experience

During her time at an international school, Melisa used the IB programme to be creative in class and to extend learning by demonstrating not just what students know, but how they know. She has previously been a KS Lead, attending workshops in China to further integrate learning and providing training in school to her peers. Melisa enjoys exploring what students are interested in learning and weaving the threads of the IB curriculum around this so that learning is enjoyable and experienced rather than simply taught.

School entrance experience

Melisa has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:

I have had 4 different students apply for scholarships to these schools, including a prestigious grammar school Woodford County High School for Girls. Out of these four, all students were offered places and 3 were offered scholarships:
1 student to Woodford County for the 11+
1 student to Normanhurst for a half scholarship
1 student for a quarter scholarship to Forest School
In addition to this, I have undertaken 7+ teaching for 18 months now, with students looking to sit their exams this year.

Owl Tutors school entrance training

Melisa has successfully completed the Owl Tutors training course in 11 Plus exam preparation. This means they have a thorough understanding of the structure, content and demands of these exams and are qualified to prepare students. Training is delivered by Holly, a highly experienced school entrance tutor and member of the Owl Tutors team.
