Celia

Celia is an experienced teacher with over 20 years' experience at top UK independent schools including St Paul's Girls' School, Abingdon and Charterhouse. She is a former head of English at Durham School and Wellington College Tianjin, as well as head of Year 13 at Repton Dubai. She has taught IB (SL/HL English Literature, SL/HL English Language and Literature, English Extended Essay), A Level English Literature, GCSE and IGCSE English Literature and English Language. Since working as an online tutor she has gained 5000 hours of tutoring experience ranging from 9+ entrance exams to Oxbridge preparation. She is an experienced examiner and has frequently examined IB, A Level, IGCSE English Language and IGCSE Literature. She has marked 11+, 13+ and 16+ entrance exams at several independent schools, as well as setting entrance exams in her role as head of department. She has successfully prepared UK and international students for entrance exams at leading UK schools. She holds a BA, MA and PGCE from Newcastle University where she developed a love of football. She has a keen interest in travel, having worked in China and Dubai, and travelled to 140 countries, which helps with relating to a wide range of students and developing descriptive writing. As a swimmer she qualified for the Olympic trials and her poem about swimming the Hellespont was featured on Radio 4. She has also coached water polo teams at regional level and enjoys using sport to help with explanations.
