7 Plus Spelling 12

Explanation: The –e at the end of the root word is dropped before –ing, –ed, –er, –est, –y or any other suffix beginning with a vowel letter is added. Exception: being.

Teaching Ideas: -Discuss the rule with your child and give them a number of examples to practise with. - Dictate a sentence which contains words with this rule and ask your child to write it down. E.g. ‘As the hiker walked up the hill, he got shinier and the view got nicer.’ Repeat the rule to them as they write.
