Rachel has worked with children aiming to attend the following schools:
I have helped children to secure places for the 7+ at Highgate, South Hampstead, The Hall, Westminster, St Paul's, UCS, Channing, Habs and St Anthony's. I also run my own 7+ Mock Exams in the Autumn term to help prepare children for exam day and give them realistic targets to work towards to give them the best chance at success. The mock exams have been really successful, particularly in giving children a better idea of time management, interview practice and to show them what is expected in the papers in order to achieve a high score.
Rachel has been a Primary School teacher for the past 20 years with a wealth of experience.
She worked as a EYFS/Year 1 Teacher at Northbridge House Pre Prep in Hampstead for 10 years and has been tutoring children individually, specifically preparing children for the 7+ with consistently good results.
She has been working as a private tutor for most of her career and relishes the opportunity to work with children on a one to one basis.
She is currently available to help with home schooling during the pandemic. She has quickly adapted to teaching online and finds it easy to engage pupils and help them through this challenging time.
She builds a fantastic rapport with both children and parents and understands fully the demands and pressures on families during this time. She is there to fully prepare and help ease the journey through entrance exams or home schooling.
Rachel is able to differentiate lessons to pitch learning objectives at the perfect level for your child. Her lessons are fun, memorable and she is consistently able to extend prior knowledge and build children's confidence across all areas of the curriculum.
Her drama background makes her a suitable candidate for hot seating and developing interview skills so that children can confidently communicate their knowledge and attributes to others.
Her creative background has given her an edge when developing pupils imaginative and creative writing skills. She uses a range of tools to enable every child to become a great storyteller!
She has worked with many EAL pupils and spent a year working at a top Private School in Madrid teaching English to native Spanish speakers. She extended this knowledge by working at Stewart International Bilingual School (Le Petite Ecole) as a Year 1 English Teacher. During her three years there she also ran extra curricular English Classes helping children from Year 1 to Year 6 develop and improve their English vocabulary.
She has a wealth of experience with both special needs children and those who find learning more challenging and prides herself on building confidence and enabling them to access the curriculum with more ease.
Rachel also runs her own 7+ Mock exams enabling children the perfect opportunity to practice the skills they have learnt and be fully prepared for exam day. She is able to set targets and focus areas so that parents have a really clear idea of how their child can work towards and achieve their goals.
She loves to travel and has volunteered at several schools around the world including Brazil, Laos and Cambodia.
Rachel qualified to teach Primary education in 2002, and holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from University of the West of England.

"In three short weeks of working with Rachel over Zoom my 3-and-a-half-year-old daughter grew in confidence and learned to love rhyming and phonics. She passed the 4+ at our preferred school and we're over the moon! Holding a little one’s attention over Zoom is not an easy feat but Rachel was a real professional- she put in a lot of effort before each session to make sure I had printed alternatives of exercises and gave me feedback after each session. We thoroughly recommend Rachel! "

"Rachel worked with my son ahead of his 7+ exams. She has a wonderful way of making learning enjoyable for young children, successfully guiding them through complicated concepts in bite-size chunks. Her teaching approach involves sharing memorable terms which my son still references in his school work. She is well versed in online tutoring and all lessons were conducted this way, very successfully. She also offered me guidance on additional learning resources I could reference to support my son’s learning and was always very responsive to ad-hoc questions."

"Rachel was fantastic in building a strong rapport with our slightly quiet boy from the get go. Her primary focus with our son was to help him improve his creative writing skills for his 7+ assessments and she very patiently helped him with several frameworks and toolkits that really helped him structure his already very imaginative mind. We could certainly see a stark difference in how his stories were structured once he started with Rachel whilst completing them in the given timeframe - in fact one of the top school’s feedback was that his story writing was most impressive compared to his peers (and I would attribute that to Rachel’s guidance and help).
She was also quite willing and flexible to give us further guidance on what we needed to do home to complement her sessions, and on various other queries about which schools to apply, their process, where our son fit in his peer group and what would be most suited to his personality.
Finally, she ran a mock test which really helped my son build further confidence for the assessments and the interviews that would follow. Thank you Rachel!"

As most of us struggle with home schooling (myself included!) we are all facing challenges we never imagined! Mindfulness activities can help children to focus and calm their minds. What better time to dip your toes into the water and explore a range of fun activities which help support emotional well-being for children and adults alike.

Rachel, like all of our tutors, is a qualified teacher and has been interviewed by us personally. All of our tutors have at least two years of classroom teaching experience and come with fantastic references and criminal records checks.
