Tutor profile - Francesca

Francesca studied English Literature and Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh and went on to train with the prestigious Teach First Leadership Development program. Having gained a PGCE from the Institute of Education with ‘outstanding’ status, she has gone on to teach and tutor children for over nine years. Francesca has helped children and young people gain entrance in to some of London's most prestigious schools, including Habs, Highgate, City of London and NLCS. Perhaps more importantly, however, she has helped instill confidence and a love of learning. Francesca was able to develop her interest in child and adolescent development during her time studying for a Master's at the University of Edinburgh and has since gone on to work as a Clinical Psychologist, specialising in children and young people. Francesca’s commitment and dedication to a holistic learning style has helped not only children’s academic attainment but also their attitude towards learning and self-esteem. Her understanding of both pedagogy and psychology offers a unique insight in to not only what should be learnt, but also how it might be learnt best.

Within the learning environment, Francesca has a particular interest in raising children’s attainment through oracy and discussion; she has taken much influence from Philosophy for Children in her practice and lead this with great success in her school. Francesca has seen great levels of improvement with her core subjects through teaching the children the power of discussion and analysis. She is a very kind and loving professional who enjoys building self-confidence and curiosity in young people. Adopting the ‘whole child’ approach to pedagogy, she has worked throughout the key stages with great success and has knowledge of teaching children with SEN needs.

As a teacher, Francesca has benefited greatly through teaching in an all-through school. This means that she has had the privilege of working in the Secondary as well as Primary department and has mentored students through GCSE and A-Level English Literature and R.E.

Outside of the classroom, Francesca likes to run, read and eat good food.
