Nick's biography

Nick's fields of expertise over the last ten years have ranged from freelance translation, event management to education. He has been teaching French, Italian and German in secondary schools, over the last 9 years. The common denominator is his strong passion for languages, combined with a serious and on-going commitment to maintain a high level of proficiency in Italian (his mother tongue), English, French and German.

His strengths stem from working with these languages in various professional contexts, alongside making languages a considerable part of his life and personal interests. Born, bred (and educated) in Italy, he continued his further studies and spent most of his professional life in the UK, dealing with the French and German languages on a daily basis.

He received his PGCE in MFL at the University of Cumbria in 2011, and has worked in three different schools since then, teaching Italian, French and German. He now works as a teacher, tutor and freelance translator.

Nick has also extensive experience with the preparation for the 11 + exam. He has helped students gain confidence in English and Maths, Verbal and Non- Verbal reasoning by providing them with the necessary knowledge and techniques to prepare for the exam. He uses a combination of curriculum content (Bond Oxford textbooks, specifically devised for the CEM format and GL exam formats), practice with past papers and creative ideas to make the learning fun and interactive. He sets homework and gives constructive feedback during and after each lesson, alongside tips for the parents to support their child in the preparation for the exam.

Owl Tutors school entrance training

Nick has successfully completed the Owl Tutors training course in 11 Plus exam preparation. This means they have a thorough understanding of the structure, content and demands of these exams and are qualified to prepare students. Training is delivered by Holly, a highly experienced school entrance tutor and member of the Owl Tutors team.
