I wanted to write to you to tell you how pleased we were with the results we got from working with Josh who you introduced us to start of 2021. My daughter was in year 5 at the time so we were relatively late to tutoring compared to some of her peers.
Though our daughter had a good grounding and support from her prep school I know that working with Josh was a huge factor in her success. She’s just had offers from CLSG, Jags, Alleyn's, Sevenoaks and an academic scholarship at St Dunstan’s. The first three would have been considered stretch options for her when we started the process.
If you ever want me to do a reference for Josh I’d be delighted to as our experience has been great. We didn’t do any extra work with our daughter ourselves so Josh did all the out of school work. As well as making sure she was confident on the basics and techniques required generally he proactively worked with her on past papers for specific schools - for example highlighting the different approach to some maths questions for City and what they were looking for. His style also worked really well for us as he’s very calm about the whole process and was able to make her feel comfortable very quickly. She really enjoyed working with him and remained enthusiastic about her lessons throughout which made everything easier for me!
Thank you to you too Lawrence for finding Josh for us.

Josh's biography
Joshua has worked extensively as a private tutor both in the UK and abroad, most recently in Italy and Saudi Arabia. Through this work he has developed a style of tutoring in which the student is challenged (through careful questioning) to make their own discoveries and take a high degree of ownership for their learning. He has a detailed understanding of the requirements of both the 7 and 11 plus exams and how these requirements can be translated into manageable goals for a student over time. He can provide tailored assessments and bespoke lesson plans to meet the needs of your child for entry to their chosen school. He has a great love of tutoring as it provides a unique opportunity to focus upon the needs of an individual student. Most recently he has helped students gain places at 11+ at: JAGs, Emmanuel, Streatham and Clapham, Sydenham High School, Blackheath High School for Girls, St Dunstan's, City School for Girls and Dulwich College. He has also helped children to gain places at 7+ to Blackheath Preparatory School, City of London School for Girls, Alleyn's, Dulwich Prep, Dulwich College and St Dustan's.
Additionally, Joshua is a tutor who has a great breadth of teaching experience and who believes that every student is individual and has the ability to succeed. He has worked in a range of educational contexts: as a workshop leader, a TEFL teacher and a primary teacher on the competitive Teach First programme. He studied music at the prestigious conservatoire, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, focusing on composition and is currently completing a masters at Trinity Laban. During his time at Guildhall, he worked within the community music department of the school and regularly led workshops for primary age students. Through this work he developed a love of teaching, which he pursued after graduation as a TEFL teacher. He has taught a range of students from the very young to adult learners and this experience means that he has a deep understanding of the English language and how students develop their knowledge through support and encouragement.
As part of the Teach First program, Joshua worked for two years in a small primary school outside Bradford. In the classroom he developed his knowledge of the National Curriculum and an understanding of how children learn over time. He places a very high value upon developing a strong relationship with each of his students, working with their interests and adapting his teaching to their learning styles. As a result of this, his classes consistently made excellent progress. In addition to this, he has experience of a wide range of additional needs and has worked with students with ASD, dyslexia and ADHD. In his current role Joshua works with classes in KS1 and KS2. In recent years, Joshua has also worked with a number of students recovering from complex neurological conditions, he has used much of his experience with SEND to help these students and found the experience to be immensely rewarding.
Outside of teaching Joshua has a continued passion for music, singing in a choir and playing for a contemporary music ensemble. He also has a great interest in educational policy and he works hard to keep himself up to date with developments in education at a local and national level.
