11+ 1 to JAGs 1 to Alleyns 1 to Streatham and Clapham (academic scholarship0 1 to St Dustan's 1 to Emmanuel (major/founders scholarship) 8+ 1 to City of London Girls 7+ 1 to City of London Girls 1 to Eltham College 1 to Blackheath Preparatory School
Joshua has worked extensively as a private tutor both in the UK and abroad, most recently in Italy and Saudi Arabia. Through this work he has developed a style of tutoring in which the student is challenged (through careful questioning) to make their own discoveries and take a high degree of ownership for their learning. He has a detailed understanding of the requirements of both the 7 and 11 plus exams and how these requirements can be translated into manageable goals for a student over time. He can provide tailored assessments and bespoke lesson plans to meet the needs of your child for entry to their chosen school. He has a great love of tutoring as it provides a unique opportunity to focus upon the needs of an individual student. Most recently he has helped students gain places at 11+ at; JAGs, Emmanuel, Streatham and Clapham, Sydenham High School and St Dunstan's. He has also helped children to gain places at 7+ to Blackheath Preparatory School and London School for Girls.
Additionally, Joshua is a tutor who has a great breadth of teaching experience and who believes that every student is individual and has the ability to succeed. He has worked in a range of educational contexts: as a workshop leader, a TEFL teacher and a primary teacher on the competitive Teach First programme. He studied music at the prestigious conservatoire, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, focusing on composition and is currently completing a masters at Trinity Laban. During his time at Guildhall, he worked within the community music department of the school and regularly led workshops for primary age students. Through this work he developed a love of teaching, which he pursued after graduation as a TEFL teacher. He has taught a range of students from the very young to adult learners and this experience means that he has a deep understanding of the English language and how students develop their knowledge through support and encouragement.
As part of the Teach First program, Joshua worked for two years in a small primary school outside Bradford. In the classroom he developed his knowledge of the National Curriculum and an understanding of how children learn over time. He places a very high value upon developing a strong relationship with each of his students, working with their interests and adapting his teaching to their learning styles. As a result of this, his classes consistently made excellent progress. In addition to this, he has experience of a wide range of additional needs and has worked with students with ASD, dyslexia and ADHD.In his current role Joshua works with classes in KS1 and KS2.
Outside of teaching Joshua has a continued passion for music, singing in a choir and playing for a contemporary music ensemble. He also has a great interest in educational policy and he works hard to keep himself up to date with developments in education at a local and national level.
Josh qualified to teach Primary education in 2014, and holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Sheffield Hallam University.

"Josh tutored my son for approximately 3 months prior to him taking the 7+. He made the lessons varied and structured them so as to focus on the areas where help was most needed. He is friendly and I found him to be effective at keeping my son's attention going for the whole hour. Josh was very helpful in suggesting additional work that could be done outside the lessons. He also provided regular feedback and set realistic expectations on the outcome of the tests. I highly recommend him."

Mother of Eltham College 7 plus candidate
"We were looking for a tutor who would focus on 11 + English and work with our daughter to unscramble some things that had become scrambled at school and help to improve her confidence in dealing with exam questions. We also wanted a tutor who would work with our daughter and draw out the best in what she could do rather than trying to teach to a formula.
Josh delivered on all of this. In addition, we liked the fact that he struck a good balance between being positive, encouraging improvement and pointing out laziness or not firing on all cylinders. It was also very helpful that he was always willing to talk to us about progress and to discuss the 11+ process and applications more generally.
Our daughter will be going to JAGS. She passed the exams for all of the other schools that she applied to (Alleyn's, Emanuel, Streatham & Clapham, Sydenham and St Dunstan's) and Josh played a key part in helping her to achieve this."
