Alanya is an experienced tutor and classroom teacher and works as a teacher educator, tutoring trainee teachers and their mentors across London for the prestigious Teach First programme. Alanya has a breadth of private tuition experience, having worked with pupils for entrance at 7,8, 9 and 11 plus, as well grammar school entrance and general booster tuition. Many of her pupils have been successful at entrance to highly competitive schools, achieved scholarship awards and increased their confidence in school through regular 1:1 support.
Alanya has worked as a teacher across the key stage 1, 2 and EYFS age-ranges. As a classroom teacher, she shared her passion for literacy as English lead for Key Stage 1 and the Early Years and Pupil Voice and Leadership Co-ordinator, leading on the curriculum for Philosophy for Children and the Rights Respecting School Award.
Alanya is a graduate of the University of St Andrews, where she read English. She went on to complete a masters degree specialising in Victorian literature. Alanya joined the Teach First Leadership Development Programme in 2013 and was awarded QTS from the Institute of Education.
Alanya is a firm believer that all children can make excellent progress with the correct support, helping children to develop confidence, resilience and an enthusiasm for learning. Her commitment to each of her pupils led Alanya to receive an 'Outstanding' grading in her PGCE.
Alanya is an imaginative practitioner and brings energy, enthusiasm and creativity to her teaching, engaging children through their interests. She has particular experience of working with more reluctant readers and writers and enjoys supporting children to develop a love of reading and creative writing. Alanya has worked with children with a range of specific learning needs including dyslexia, dysgraphia, hearing loss and sensory and processing issues.
In her spare time, Alanya is an avid reader and theatre-goer. She sings regularly as part of the Constanza Chorus.
Alanya qualified to teach Primary education in 2014, and holds a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) from Institute of Education.
