Experienced, inspiring and effective teacher.

Educational background is in English Literature and Modern Foreign Languages. CELTA, DELTA, PGCE (with Distinction) and QTS qualified as well as an examiner for a leading UK examination board. Head of Department in a international school in the UK, previous Head of Year. Recent successes with 7+,8+ and 11+ include offers secured at: St Paul`s, King`s, Westminster, Latymer, Hampton, WCCS and UCS. Adept at preparing students for all aspects of the 7+, 8+ and 11+ entrance examinations including, Maths, comprehension, creative writing, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Experienced teacher of English Literature, lead practitioner of English Literature in current school setting, with a particular focus on Pearson Edexcel, but also AQA. Able to teach from KS1 - KS5. Available for online and face to face sessions depending on location. Also available to assist with personal statement writing and EPQ preparation.

Gemma has run the Academic English provision in an international school setting, been Head of Year for 2 years and most recently Head of Department since 2015. During the week she specialises in KS3-KS5 English, but during evenings, weekends, and holidays for the last few years she has tutored students for the 7+, 8+ and 11+ examinations.

Gemma has a 100% success rate in the last 3 years of placing students in their top 3 choice schools. She currently has past students successfully placed at: St Paul’s, KCS Wimbledon, Westminster, Latymer, City, Hampton, Emmanuel, Ibstock, Epsom, WCCs and others. She has been tutoring for the entrance exams for about 5 years. Her students consistently see large improvements across their skills and are regularly ranked in the upper quartiles in their entrance exam scores.

Gemma has tutored small groups, larger groups and 1:1. She has led mock exam sessions, providing parents with detailed feedback on their child’s competencies in the various components of the 7+, 8+ and 11+ examinations as well as lead mock interview sessions. She has successfully taught students up to 11+ in both Maths and English as well as the verbal and NVR components.

Owl Tutors school entrance training

Gemma has successfully completed the Owl Tutors training course in school entrance exam preparation. This means they have a thorough understanding of the structure, content and demands of these exams and are qualified to prepare students. Training is delivered by Holly, a highly experienced school entrance tutor and member of the Owl Tutors team.
