Rachel's biography

Gaining a Masters accredited teaching PGCE at the University of Oxford has ensured Rachel has a solid grasp of the most effective pedagogic techniques. She obtained her PGCE shortly after gaining a First Class Science degree at a top Russell Group University and her most recent teaching post was as Head of Science and Head of Gifted and Talented at Wetherby Prep School. She has a very strong academic background and has taught at both Prep level and Senior schools.

Rachel's most recent teaching post was as Head of Science at Wetherby Preparatory School in Central London. As well as being Head of Science, she also led the whole school programme for Gifted and Talented pupils, ensuring these pupils were always challenged and stretched in their learning. Rachel also worked as Second in Department at a large and successful senior schools teaching Geography up to A Level, and GCSE History and Religious Studies.

Rachel is a creative teacher, finding fun ways to teach and explain difficult topics . She has provided training to teachers on how to plan and give ‘Outstanding’ lessons and has adapted the same techniques in her tutoring sessions. After identifying the 'type' of learner a pupil is, Rachel then builds a scheme of learning centred around the pupils needs. A culture of praise is important in her sessions, encouraging pupils to be motivated in their learning.

Rachel has been tutoring for seven years. She has home-schooled children and has also worked as a regular after school tutor, helping pupils to make sense of what they are learning in the classroom whilst monitoring and tracking pupils progress across the curriculum, allowing for quick intervention. She also helps organise pupils revison and homework timetabling.

Rachel has a sound knowledge of Science and Geography at CE level and also tutors children in preparing for 7+ and 11+ school entrance exams.
