Rachel's biography

Gaining a Masters-accredited PGCE at the University of Oxford has ensured Rachel has a solid grasp of the most effective pedagogic techniques. She obtained her PGCE shortly after gaining a First Class Science degree at a top Russell Group university and currently teaches at Wetherby Preparatory School in Central London, where she is Head of Lower School (Years 3&4). As part of her current role, she also teaches Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning in the lower school helping pupils prepare for their 11+.

Rachel’s previous roles include Head of Science and Head of Gifted and Talented at Wetherby Prep, where she ensured high-achieving pupils were continuously stretched and challenged. She has also worked as Second in Department at a large and successful senior school, teaching Geography up to A Level, as well as GCSE History and Religious Studies.

Rachel has been tutoring for over ten years. She has experience both home-schooling and supporting pupils with regular after-school sessions. She monitors and tracks progress closely, allowing for timely intervention and support. She also helps pupils plan their revision and manage homework effectively. After identifying each pupil's learning style, she builds a personalised scheme of learning tailored to their needs. A culture of praise and encouragement underpins her sessions, helping pupils to stay motivated and build confidence.

Rachel has extensive experience tutoring children in English, Maths, and Science at 7+, 8+, 11+, and Common Entrance level, as well as preparing pupils for GCSE Humanities and Science. She also has experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and adapts her teaching accordingly.
